New Entrant Enrolment Process
In order to enrol we require a signed copy of enrolment form handed in to the school with a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation records. Wherever possible we encourage you to bring your child to school for two visits prior to their 5th birthday or starting date. Visits will be held between 9.00am - 11.00am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Parents must stay within the school grounds during these visits however are encouraged to stay in the staffroom to give their child independence. School Hours The school is open from 8:30am each morning, once students arrive after this time they are considered to be in our care until they are picked up from school. Offical instruction begins at 9am and ends at 2.50pm. School Trips & Visits The school sees well planned trips and visits as an extension of the classroom and we actively encourage all activities both sporting and academic. Each class often go for a hikoi (walk) to significant local places learning about the whenua around us. Parent Involvement We encourage parents to get involved in the school in a variety of ways; coming along on our hikoi, reading with children, cooking groups, sports coaching, working bees or completing small odd jobs Collaborative Teaching Teams • Greatly increased diagnosis of academic, social, behavioural, relationship issues with multiple teachers in each class. • An abundance of innovative thinking due to having a professional peer to bounce ideas off throughout the day. • Flexible learning structures that allow for adjustments to maximise opportunities, by having another teacher to share the responsibility. • More thorough communication systems and opportunities to connect for all stakeholders with two teachers in each learning space. • Greater sense of what is possible with a larger team to support ‘big’ tasks that could be daunting if attempting them on your own. |
Reporting to Parents
Kaiako use the HERO app to share learning and reports with whānau. Akonga receive written reports twice a year. If you have concerns please do not wait until the interview or reporting times. Contact the teachers and make an appointment. School Lunches We provide home-cooked lunches at our Kura because we believe that full tummies and nutritious food help our tamariki learn, grow, and thrive. Full tummies, healthy minds, successful learners. Country Bus: A ministry funded bus is available for whanau living within the wider Waimata area (specific details of eligibility can be found at the office). Swimming Pool Swimming instruction is a part of the physical education programme and all children are expected to participate. As our pool is heated we swim from the start of Term 4 until the end of Term 1. Summer season keys may be available for purchase over the holiday break dependent on the Board of Trustees approval (Health & Safety regulations must be in place for such initiatives to be viable). Public Health Nurse We have access to support from our Public Health Nurse with regard to any health concern regarding our students. Referrals made to the Health Nurse will be made only after contacting parents first. Lost Property Lost property is kept on the front deck by the staffroom. Parents are encouraged to check the clothing regularly and all items should be named! This helps us return lost property to their owners. Vans Our kura run pick ups from Waihi and Katikati five days a week. Please note Katikati is pick up only (no drop offs in the afternoon). This service is currently free. |
