Te Mauri O Te Wai

Water has mauri, a vitality or essence that supports life. The actions we each take can enhance mauri, or they can diminish mauri. The mauri of water affects the mauri of people. It is about the health of water. It is also about the deep connections between water, the environment and people.

Wahanga 4 - Term 4

The warmer weather is returning and we are looking forward to spending more time outside. We can look forward to completing our Waterhole Mapping, more inter-school sports activities, more hikoi and visiting our places of significance.

We welcome Whaea Lindsay into our class this term. She has come to us via Waikato university and will be completing a 6 Week Placement with us.

What we've been up to:

THE END OF AN ERA
Our Year 6's are heading off to college next year!! They spent some quality time together recently dining in at the beautiful Talisman Cafe in Katikati, all dressed up and looking pretty flash. We will miss you all so much and wish you all the very best on your journey.

Thank you to the team at Subway Waihi that supply us with some yummy Subway kai. This helps to fuel and nourish our tinana so that we can continue being awesome leaders of tomorrow.

Wahanga 3 - term 3

We had a fabulous start to the term, however, midway through we saw the return of Lockdown. This allowed us to look inwards at ourselves and the possibilities of survival skills being of importance to us during this lockdown period. So what better way to extend our learning by creating the ideal "Waimata Warrior"

WAHANGA 2 - TERM 2

Mapping Waterholes IN our rohe

We are learning about significant places in our community, and are starting by mapping out our favourite waterholes that we have attended this Summer.
Waihi Beach.

It has white sand.
It sometimes has very cold salty water.
It is a whole lot of fun.
I sit on the sand and play.
I was scared of the water but I still hopped in.
I like the beach.
By Kahli.
Waitawheta Bridge Swing
Fast running water
Rocky shores
Deep water
Different to my expectations.
Freezing cold water, even though I sat on the bank.
Class mates very wet, some were scared and some were confident.

Te REo Maori me ona tikanga

Here at Waimata School Te Ao Maori is incorporated into our everyday learning. We recite karakia, waiata, and tikanga practises daily in the hopes that all our tauira leave here confident to walk in both languages of our country.
