Te Mauri O Te Wai
Water has mauri, a vitality or essence that supports life. The actions we each take can enhance mauri, or they can diminish mauri. The mauri of water affects the mauri of people. It is about the health of water. It is also about the deep connections between water, the environment and people.

Significant Places - Our Special Place - Tangata Rongonui - Famous People
This term we are learning about Places of Significance to us and Special places that are unique to us. We will be visiting a few of our significant places that we believe our kura has a strong connection too and then some special places within our rohe. Our next focus is Tangata Rongonui and how they contribute to society. Do you have someone famous within your whānau? What does being famous mean and look like?
We recently visited some special places unique to Whaea Kate.

Whangai i te hautapu /Matariki Celebrations.
This year was the first year Matariki was recognised as a public holiday. We celebrated this beautiful time by staying overnight at kura. We prepared our kai for the hangi, we helped Mr Phillips & Cowboy with wood collecting and gutting the mutton even, now that was fun! Some of us even learnt how to burn the sugar to make steam pudding. We enjoyed welcoming in the Māori New Year right by the fire looking up to the stars. We began with our whole kura karakia and our tuakana Elijah Akuhata-Green closed our karakia with a really long one and they even sung. It was a beautiful morning and an even cooler day because the kai was super delicious.

Wahanga 3 - term 3
We had a fabulous start to the term, however, midway through we saw the return of Lockdown. This allowed us to look inwards at ourselves and the possibilities of survival skills being of importance to us during this lockdown period. So what better way to extend our learning by creating the ideal "Waimata Warrior"
